A final drive motor combines hydraulic motor technology with a planetary gear reduction system to power your excavator's movement. The hydraulic section generates high-speed rotation using pressurized fluid, while the planetary gearbox reduces speed and multiplies torque. Yes. However, final drive motors can weigh over 200 pounds based on the model, so you'll need lifting equipment, and ideally, a second technician with you.
Each motor ships with instructions and hydraulic fittings. However, if you're not comfortable with the installation process or lack the proper tools, we recommend consulting a qualified technician.
Watch for unusual grinding or whining noises during operation, visible oil leaks around the motor housing, reduced power or slower track movement, the machine pulling to one side or excessive heat from the final drive. If you notice these symptoms, first inspect your gear oil level and condition, then reach out to our team for diagnostic help.
